Andy was brought up in Crickhowell and educated at Brecon High School, He joined the NHS in 1985. After an early career in South Glamorgan Health Authority and the Welsh Health Common Services Authority, Andy undertook various operational management roles in Gwent Community and Mental Health Services and in Nevill Hall hospital.
Andy project managed Trust reconfiguration in Gwent before joining the Corporate Strategy Project in 1998. Here, Andy worked on a Wales wide review of acute hospital services culminating in the publication of the report “Access and Excellence”.
In 2000, Andy joined Dyfed Powys Health Authority as Deputy Chief Executive. In January 2003, Andy was appointed Chief Executive of Powys Healthcare NHS Trust and became Chief Executive of Powys Local Health Board at the beginning of April 2003.
Andy is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, an associate of the Institute of Health Management and has an MBA (Health) from Nottingham University.
