Communications Officer Masterclass

Working in the spotlight: Getting the media onside
1st November
2010, Welsh NHS Confederation offices, Bridgend, 2-4.30pm

The Welsh NHS Confederation is hosting a rerun of the Masterclass held in July for board members on managing the media, but this time, the programme and content has been altered specifically for an audience of communications professionals.

The Masterclass will be led by Penny Roberts, former chief reporter for BBC Wales, and Tony O’Shaughnessy, former current affairs editor.  Penny and Tony have now started their own independent media training company, Tower Media, and have been commissioned by the Welsh NHS Confederation to run a series of media training sessions for board members across NHS Wales. The Masterclass will focus on the following issues:

  • The media landscape in Wales
  • Understanding journalists
  • The political backdrop to NHS communications
  • Handling media interviews: an overview of the media training being provided to board members and an opportunity to tell Tower Media what you want them to learn
  • A chance to work on your own broadcast skills

We have worked with Penny and Tony to build a bespoke programme designed specifically around the communications needs and challenges facing communications officers in NHS Wales.

This will be an informal event with plenty of opportunity for questions, discussion and even an opportunity to practice your own interviewing skills.

Attendance at this free event is open to NHS Wales communications officers and tea and coffee will be provided on arrival.
