Margaret was born in Penarth, South Wales and educated at Penarth Grammar School and University College, Swansea. She now lives just outside Caerphilly in Groeswen with her husband and son aged 16. She joined British Telecom in London following graduation in 1974. and subsequently gained a place on the NHS Management Training Programme, taking up post as Personnel Manager at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff in January, 1976.
Subsequently she worked at hospital and health authority level in the former Mid and South Glamorgan Health Authorities and led the establishment of the East Glamorgan NHS Trust in 1994, becoming its Chief Executive.
Appointed as Chief Executive of the Pontypridd & Rhondda NHS Trust in April, 1999 following the merger of the two local Trusts. The Trust serves the population of Taff Ely and Rhondda, providing acute, community and mental health services with a budget of £159 million and staff of 3,500.
In addition she is a Non-Executive Director of the Principality Building Society
Margaret was awarded the OBE in the 2004 New Year’s Birthday Honours list.
