Management Board

The Board comprises the chairs and chief executives of the ten LHBs and NHS Trusts in Wales and the Director of the Welsh NHS Confederation. 

The chair of the Welsh NHS Confederation is Win Griffiths, chair of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Local Health Board, and the vice-chair is Trevor Purt, chief executive of Hywel Dda Local Health Board.


Role of the Board

The Board meets at least twice in each year, one of which meetings being deemed the Annual General Meeting. The quorum for the board is seven members, including either the chair or the vice-chair and at least three chairs and at least three chief executives.

The responsibilities of the Board include:

  1. The conduct of the business of the Welsh NHS Confederation.
  2. The appointment of a Director and the provision of advice and guidance to the Director.
  3. Approval of an annual Business Plan and Budget, to be prepared by the Director.
  4. Approval of an annual report and performance review of the activities of the WNHSC, to be prepared by the Director.
  5. Representation of the Welsh NHS and the promotion of the interests of its membership, as appropriate.


Role of the Chair

The Board chair and vice-chair are elected by the members of the WNHSC Board.

The role of the Chair is to:

  1. lead the WNHSC Board and to ensure that it works effectively;
  2. ensure that the Board and its members are working well together and as individuals;
  3. chair the Board meetings and other WNHSC events as required;
  4. provide a public face for the work of the WNHSC in line with the work programme of the network and as agreed with the WNHSC Director;
  5. support the WNHSC Director and the team and hold the WNHSC Director to account for the performance of the organisation;
  6. represent the WNHSC at the NHSC Corporate Board and Board of Trustees.
