Response to Together for Health
1st November 2011
Responding to the publication of Together for Health, the government's five year vision for the NHS in Wales, the Welsh NHS Confederation Director, Helen Birtwhistle, said:
“The NHS in Wales is ready to meet the challenge set out in Together for Health, but nobody should be under any illusion about the scale of that challenge. Growing demand for health services and the rising cost of providing them mean that the NHS needs to make transformational changes to the way it operates.
“We are working in a tough financial climate, but many of the changes would need to be made anyway on the basis of improving the quality and safety of services. The public can be reassured that where changes are proposed, these will be based on clinical evidence and the advice of experts. Our responsibility now is to involve the public, patients and staff in explaining and working through the choices that need to be made.”
